Not another bloody Clinique post!

Clinique have recently been on a PR mission for their Three Step Routine, which i think is fantastic because i personally love this range. I have used this well over a year and half now, and i can say it has played a part to my skin becoming more clearer and cleaner.

I bang on about this range all the time, i can understand that shelling out for three high-end products is pretty expensive, but Clinique are offering a limited amount of people to try a sample kit.
Simply go to this link, scroll down and sign up: http://www.3thingsbefore30.com/special-offers

There are only a selected amount being given away, but it's worth a try! If not you could always purchase a try me kit for £10. I wish other brands would offer sample sizes, i would most definitely be more open to trying newer brands, especially if they were high-end. I don't mind buying a slightly more expensive product, if i know that it actually works.

Let me know if your successful and i hope this helps, currently myself, my mother and brother have all signed up for one.. ;)

The Lust List - 28th June 2010

I haven't compiled a Lust List for quite a while, simply because i haven't lusted over anything, oh how depressing of me! Autumn/Winter is far more exciting i think, or maybe i'm just bitter that i didn't have the excuse of a holiday this year to bulk buy those floral, frilly, coral, chiffon, floaty summer clothes, boo!

But never the less, there a quite a few in-between season pieces floating about in Topshop, hence why the list is basically compiled of Topshop..

This khaki green sequin top looks absolutely fabulous in real life, but online it just looks crap. It would look super fierce with a tan (i feel like i always say this?) and some black skinnies, neither of which i am or own. So although i'm lusting from afar, this can stay looking pretty instore, and with that price tag, my purse can sigh a breath of relief.

Back to basics, with all the printed and tailored skirts and shorts i own, i need some thing to balance it out. And nothing beats the feeling of a brand new, fresh white teeshirt. With the rolled up sleeves and cute pocket are simple yet good added details.

I adore this skirt. Is it because it sparkles? It is because it looks worn out? I don't know, i just want it.
I'd buy it for £45, even with student discount, thats a pricey skirt. Although a similar skirt is selling All Saints for £130, mmh.

I'm buying these without a doubt, i just love the powdery, dusky pink and they are tailored. Effortless.

I think this is one of those dresses that looks naff on the hanger, so you bypass it. Then two weeks later, you see some one actually wearing it, and you kick yourself because it actually looks amazing on. This dress is that dress. Yet - i will not be trying it on, just because i know i will buy it. hah.

I know people find Topshop rather pricey, i suppose i look slightly past that because i have student discount (my love for NUS will never die) but just looking at these items, i really think they have notched up the prices. Even still, i think i will still go on to purchase, would you?

what you need, you know i got it.

Thought of the day:

Wearing Glasses.

Last week as per usual i pick up my copy of Look magazine to read on my lunch break, casually flicking through there was a double page spread written by the editor Ali Hall on the subject of laser eye surgery. It was an interesting read about her before/after transformation with laser eye surgery, after reading on i came across the phrase which went along the lines of '..and who wants to spoil their bikini look wearing specs? It's not very Kelly Brook.' This article caused quite a stir on my Twitter feed and i think that phrase is a tad bizzarre. Normally, i couldn't give a toss about some one's opinion on body-weight/ skin/ hair styles, but i think this was pretty careless throw-away comment without any intention to offend, but it got me thinking.

I'm blind as a bat, yet i never wear my glasses. Not because i don't like them, i just haven't got used to them or needed to rely on them fully yet, but on the other hand i still wouldn't want to wear them constantly. Like Ali Hall, i am interested in laser eye surgery. My mum had the underwent the process and hasn't looked back (baha bad pun), practically transforming her life. I personally think that it's amazing, sure i think it's a bit creepy and gross, but for 10 minutes of weirdness - it is worth the perfect vision. As soon as my eye sight levels to a certain point, i will definitely seek this treatment out, regardless of the cost.

But for the mean time, i should definitely embrace wearing my glasses more, even if i look like an eight-eyed freak watched 3D films, i personally couldn't give a toss about swaning about on a beach like Kelly Brook!

What are your thoughts on glasses or Laser eye surgery? worth the hype or far too weird?

I'm a dancing machine

Over the last month i have purchased some new bits and pieces - mainly beauty. Partly because i'm over buying summer clothes - roll on A/W.

romper at Joy (£24.50)

this is so ditzy and cute.
perfect for summer days, in the city.

printed wrap chiffon skirt - Topshop (at a pricey £35.00)

i adore the print, you can see it more vividly the promo pic.
as i soon as i saw this in the flagship branch, i whipped it up and i'm so glad i did.
this can be worn up, down, day, night.

ballet pumps - New Look (£8.00)

these are the softest ballet pumps, like the Topshop ones i live in.
..but literally half the price.
i may go back for moar.

City Block Sheer - Clinique: this is a repurchase, this is the best primer around.

Tinted Moisturiser - Nivea: this is my new summer product, its lightweight and gives me a very minimal matte finish - need a tanned body though ;)

Clinique Radiance samples - i was given these after purchasing my City Block and a cleanser (not shown), these are so good but not for that price tag, ouch.

Sanctuary Night Cream - after my ban on buying beauty products, as you can see i went slightly over board. i'm not even sure why i bought this, but when in Rome (Boots).

When i was at Loaded, various women's magazines had a sale of their unused products, with everything selling for a £1! I was there like a shot, naturally. And, of course so were another hundred women frantically raiding tables. I managed to score this Laura Mercier lipstick in Nude (worth £18.00) and these Redken hair products: heat protector, straightening balm, voluming mouse and spray - ALL for £5! crazy.

I also purchased this Barry M lipstick in coral - its such a beautiful shade.

Nail varnish in Peach by American Apparel - (£6.00)

this shade is so refreshing and instantly puts a smile on my face.
i wasn't to sure how these would apply, but they have such a strong colour after one application, my friend also bought other shades so i'll see how they go, but i'll definitely buying some more of these!

Key Necklace - GoGo Phillips (at Topshop £9.00)

I saw Holly's blog and was instantly drawn to this jewelery range after she posted her buys, i had to refrain from buying more, but i totally adore this necklace. If you want to know more about this range, see the lovely Holly's blog at Yummy Mummy Beauty Blog.

Have you tried any of these products?

Work Experience at Loaded

This year is the year of interning, to date this is my (count's fingers) 4th work experience and it was by far the best. In September i'm progressing into my third final year of university, which is actually pretty scary yet very exciting, so this summer, after what seems like fifty thousand (no actual exaggeration) phone calls/ emails / letters later; i arrived at Loaded.

(here comes all the fancy magazine jargon)

Your first impressions of Loaded magazine maybe some what horrified, scantily clad girls and fast cars? No thanks. Think again, Loaded magazine was the cornerstone of the men's magazine, it featured the ever hip 90's lad - think blur and Brit pop. When the first issue of Loaded was published, by the brainchild genius James Brown, it didn't include many naked ladies, it catered for music, entertainment and a basically a downright good laugh. Roll on from 1994, the Loaded lad has moved on, bar the additional pages of (nearly) naked women, there are also pages dedicated to style, in-depth features and relationships. Not just straight up sex, but relationships and women. The Loaded lad aims for a stable relationship and wants to please his girlfriend, sure they will have a good nose at a half dressed 22 year old from Portsmouth, but the Loaded lad treats women with respect. In the office next to the large plastic penis and a rather dirty pirate flag, there hangs the Loaded Mission statement with final point being: We at Loaded respect women, and this is demonstrated throughout the whole editorial content.
I had no idea what to expect.

The Highlights of the Week

I turned up at the IPC towers on Monday morning feeling pretty nervous, i had already interned in the same building whilst at Hair so i knew my way around the large glass tower. And luckily, my friend Abby was interning at TV Times for the week too - just incase we needed emotional support in the ladies loos. After receiving my pass, i aimless wondered around NME, Nuts, Uncut offices (cringe) until i finally got there. The office is jumbled desks with atleast ten full time employees, ranging from the art desk, editorial and picture desk. My first impressions was how friendly the whole team were (all men may i add) they were all so down to earth and friendly. I was seated at my desk, which housed a half drunk bottle of cider and a book that had a knife comming out - i didn't ask.

Each morning there was a team meeting, which resulted in one guy ringing a bell, you know the ear-deafening church bells that they have for the playground in primary schools.. They would discuss what pages needed to be working on, what leads needed chasing up and various deadlines. After a couple of rude jokes later i was set to task by researching various features and jokes. I don't particularly want to go into detail about what content will be covered in the magazine, as this issue they were working on was the September issue, and who knows a sneaky journalist from FHM may read my post.. unlikely but still. Yet a regular feature was a jokes page, where i trawled the internet finding the most weirdest and funny jokes! Apparently i have quite a knack of finding rude jokes..

Another key job of mine throughout the week was researching various topics, whether that be facts and background for a feature, or random facts, trivia and background information needed for on celebrity interviews or even just searching for suitable feature stories. One story was based on a model from Bolivia who has recently become a politician, what a transformation aye! I was asked to research her, but trawling the net only provided me with the same old stuff. I asked the News editor what to do: 'have you tried calling her?'..'well, she lives in Bolivia'..'yes, so?' So after a major breakdown in panic and a very friendly chat with editor he gave me lots of tips on sussing out information and research - something i havent been able to put into practice at uni. Luckily, the research i already had was enough, so i was left to draft the copy needed (eee! - i'm excited to see where if it gets printed).

The Publisher (whose role is to deal with the business side of the magazine) asked me to create an advertising pitch for the magazine, which is odd because a) thats big responsibility to give to an intern whose been there three days which could potentially cost you an advertising contract (£££) and b) that's his job. So after the Editor, found out he promptly gave me a new task to work on a new feature. This will be along the lines of 'What women want, that men have,' and i was asked to come up with various ideas, this was so fun and it was even funnier to read the lad's list of what they want that women have - i can't wait to post it!

Overall my time at Loaded was the best experience i've had to date, even if it was only a week - to cut along story short:

- Two editors had long chats with me about where i want to go in life, what i should do after uni annd they both offered to be interviewed for my dissertation (RESULT).

- All the guys were so friendly and down to earth, i really felt like i fitted in and they were so approachable.

- I got to actually contribute to the magazine, where as i've only worked behind the scenes for other mags, i truly felt i was actively doing something - actually learning and improving my skills.

- And the best thing? They invited me back! And this time, they want to set up an interview, where i (yes me!) would get to interview some one - and i don't care if it's Lucy from Dorset and her double DD's!

Tomorrow, i will be delivering this little present - and some more chocolate goodness to the Loaded lads to say thank you for having me! Unfortunately i didn't know how to Fed Ex beer?

Thanks for reading, i hope you enjoyed this post and it wasn't too long, maybe i should do a post on a guide to Interning? I do have some more stories, but i'll save that for another post.

And a final point, i basically need to get a job at IPC when i finish uni basically because the canteen is like a restaurant and the women's magazines have monthly sales where they sell off beauty and hair bits for a £1! If thats not good enough reasons to work there, then i don't know! (I'll post what i managed to buy from the beauty sale in another post)

LOADED WORK EXP.

So my recent absence is due to having work experience at Loaded magazine, which i will give you all the details on the asap.
I was wondering if i could ask you all a question:

As a girl, what is the one thing you want that a man has?

I'm looking for any suggestions from being able to pee anywhere, to Top Gear, to being able to have a 4th helping of Pizza Hut Buffet without any judging looks. From the weird to the wonderful, any suggestions will be much appreciated.

Fashionistaaa!

If you remember so, a month back i attended Graduate Fashion Week. This was because i was lucky enough to be asked by Emma of The Dressing Up Box to write an article for a magazine called Fashionista, that would be given out at the Educational day (and in everyones goodie bags who attended the Gala evening ee!).This was my first piece of writing published in a publication, so it was pretty freeking exciting to be honest. I'ts now been uploaded online so i can share, if you fancy a read.

My article is all about the world of blogging, and not only how you can make firm friends, have a good natter but also enhance your C.V! (page 24/25)

(click to read full screen)
You will also notice there are other contributers from the blogging world, these lovley ladies:

Also, take a peak at the Fashionista website for more of a ganders of Emma's hard work!

get teenage kicks right through the night!

Just as it starts to shine, the high-street show off their Autumn/Winter 2010 collections. As much as i love the summer (nothing beats a good book, a glass of ice tea in the sunshine) i much, much prefer dressing for winter. But being honest, i do have a slightly weird obsession for woolly tights and an expensive addiction for stocking up on Zara's tailored coats, and i quite frankly can't wait to get my hand's on these next collections.

Here are my top picks from each collection - you can view the full display of items on InStyle or Marie Claire online.

Topshop

Firstly, these Topshop promotional photos are literally making my eyes hurt. Shoving so many different pieces together, i cannot appreciate the jumbled mess. There were many items in the collection, i just couldn't get my head around - too doom 'n gloom.

However, i'm practically willing to sell my younger brother to the highest bidder in order to get hold of one of those camel capes - talk about killing two trends with one coat! I'm also lusting majorly over the printed skirt, the chiffon tulip skirt was seen over all A/W fashion week, and this print is unique and a good palette of muted shades.

My feet are also itching for some of those knitted knee length socks - they just look so chunky and so warm - wardrobe staple.

New Look

Unlike the Topshop A/W, New Look is full of bright, light sequined, chiffon pieces. I'm guessing those dresses will be released around the festive period (seems so silly talking about 4/5 months away - but thats fashion), and i was quite taken aback at how unlike the normal New Look we see. Which is normally nice onscreen - but tatty in real life. Yet these dresses are from the Limited Edition line, meaning good quality but for the higher prices, but the cute nude sequined number would have me at any price.

Miss Selfridge

Miss Selfridge baffles me, insted of catering for one style egg, they throw all their style eggs into one basket, give it a good shake and you get left with a splatter of the plain dull or the over top extreme. Somewhere in the middle, these items fit in. I adore the cream dress, i need the fur scarf (totally pissed at myself for not buying one last year) and the military coat with fur details is just somewhat intriguing (in a good way!)

Roll on A/W! but i would like the sunshine to stay for just a little bit longer!
summer or winter clothes?
also looking forward to Zara/River Island/M&S collections.

What's your Beauty Style?

I was tagged by the lovely Charlotte at Lipglossiping to do a tag based on 'What's your Beauty Style? Charlotte's blog Lipglossiping is one of my all time favourite blogs, not just because she has the cutest daughter, some damn gooden' reviews or because she has some fast one-liners that have me giggling like nobodies business - but because of all the hard work she puts in. Seriously, Lipglossiping is one of my favourite reads, even if she does break my bank balance, every day there's a new post to feast my beauty cravings! But enough of my ramblings - just check her out here or on her twitter (beware her tweets can make you rather hungry).

1. What is your beauty style? (Natural, trendy, etc.)
My beauty style would be very natural and polished (hopefully). I believe quite strongly in creating the perfect base to my make-up, so i usually spend most of my time trailing new foundations, concealers ect but thankfully at the moment i'm at a happy medium. Unlike most beauty bloggers i haven't really fazed into to eyeshadow, it just doesn't interest me, but long, thick lashes are my vice. They make up for my lack of eyebrows - heh.

2. Where do you get your beauty inspiration from?
I either get my inspiration from other beauty blogs, if there's an amazing product thats being raved about then i'll check it out. I have always used high-end products, i just never experimented fully until i started reading beauty blogs. Another source of inspiration would be the Glamour magazine beauty spreads, the luscious long thick hair, perfected brows and long lashes have me swooning like no tomorrow. One of my favourite make-up artists, Lisa Elderidge completes most looks for Glamour so no wonder why i'm a massive fan out her YouTube channel.

Lisa Elderidge for Glamour.

3. What beauty products do you have the most of?
Foundation and Mascara's. Foundation because of the sheer amount of trial and tribulations to find the correct one, and mascaras because although i have an expressed true love of Doir Show Black-out Mascara; i will find a cheaper alternative. Yet this is proving unlikely and expensive, so i may as well buy another bloody tube!

This is after i chucked a load of mascaras- is there even such a thing as a mascara hoarder?

4. What’s you favourite/holy grail colour for:

Eyes:

Funny you should say that, i have been pondering over peach shadows for a while and then i came across this little Lancome number in the Allders (department store in Croydon) for a good price of £11.50 (reduced from £23.00). Peaches and light beiges instantly warm up my complexion and compliment my eye colour, so i'm actually pretty fucking excited i found this!

Lips:

Light pinks/ Creamy nudes - currently loving Revlon in Peach Petal.

Cheeks:

Peaches or baby pinks - currently loving my Laura Mercier cream blush in Orelander.

Nails:

Currently lilac, but i love a good nude, coral or red.

5. Three favourite brands of the moment:
It is important to know that my collection is quite small, but i do like trying new products and brands, so i thought i would answer the question as brand's i want to explore - currently pondering over:

Nar's - I'm dying to get my hands on any of the sets, so i can trial some of their most iconic products.

Illamasqua - I need their cream/powder blushes in my life.

Mac - Although i have few item's already, i'm soon becoming an avid collector of the different seasonal collections, but i cannot wait to try out more blushes and beauty powders.

I tag:

the lovely Jo at Enough About You
and finally Tassy at Unetasse
