Fly me to the moon.

The very thought of fake tan sets my mind whirring in horror, there have been many forays in the world of giving my self that olive glow, that have more then mostly turned out to be truly horrifying. As much as i would love to look permanently glowing, healthy and looking like oh-hello-i've-just-arrived-home-from-the-bahamas, it alls boils down to laziness. Truth be told i cant be assed with the faff. The careful art of tanning application, without the dreaded streaks and not to mention trying to reach that bloody awkward, can never reach spot on your back, whilst smelling like a packet of Rich Tea biscuits; all at least three times a week is really not appealing in the slightest. I'll tan when and where i see fit, basically my arms, chest and legs (aka the actual bodily parts on show) literally two days before an event. An event? Good god i sound like a right socialite. And scrap the two days prep, try the panic, crazed morning/early evening application rush.

Despite this, i have managed to hap-hazzardly along the way formulate a safe, fool-proof way of tanning..

Prepping the skin for tanning is a vital step in creating a long lasting and unpatchy overall tan, using a salt scrub like the above will exfoliate away any old skin cells and provide a smooth, fresh base to apply tan. Currently i'm using the above scrub by the brand Naked, a natural range found in Boots. It has a good gloop* to it, aka not runny. The salt scrub particles are pretty large and are easily massaged into the skin, without leaving a gross layer of thin gunk on the skin you find in other scrubs. Another fabulous tip i've come to realise is applying the scrub on dry skin rather than wet in the shower - where i mostly loose handfuls in the shower tray and try hopelessly scooping it up like a mad woman. This way however you can work the scrub in to the skin for longer, making the product work better and easier.

A good old scrub is definitely needed on ankles and elbows, or they will turn a very eye catching shade of orange - a look i've sadly sported quite a few time, a thin layer of vaseline or body butter over dry skinned areas will combat this too.

I'm not going to lie and say i've used every fake tanner on the market, but what i will say is this is one tanner that rules them all. Forget gradual tanners, your just asking to be tangoed, or the worst of them all: tanning wipes, St Moritz foam is a holy grail tanner. Priced around a bargainous £2.99, its a faction of St Tropez (basically the same product) however it is not readily available on the high-street so i snapped mine up easily on Amazon. Applied with a bog standard tanning mitt, this tan has green undertones unlike other tanners of which are mostly red. This green undertone promotes a more olive shade, and boy they aren't lying. The tanner is easy to spread and due to the dark nature of moose you can instantly see where its been applied and the colour darkens instantly over the next hour or two. Perfect when you need to tan in a rush.

What i will say is that when showering, a fraction of the tan will wash off but it still leaves a streak-free more natural faded application all over. God forbid should we be blessed finally with a sunshine filled week i would reapply every 3-4 nights.

I really cannot recommend this tanner enough!

Throughout the week and before another application, i use a pair of cheap exfoliating gloves with my normal shower gel to rid of any build-up and create another smooth base. They are dirt cheap and you can apply any pressure you feel necessary!

All fake tanners are pretty drying on the skin, so definitely get in the routine of applying moisturiser after showering. This Superdrug Vitamin E moisturiser does the job but is rather light and sinks in almost immediately, cheap as chips for a massive tub. It has added bonus points of smelling really fresh and summery too.

I'm far too much of a wuss in attempting to fake tan my face with the St. Moritz, but when Hannah recommended the Olay facial tanner i snapped up a bottle. It adds a gradual, light tan to the face overall giving a more healthier tan appearance, rather than turning a nasty orange. It is rather greasy though, so definitely to be used every other night before bed. And remember to massage the cream throughly into the hair line, on and around the ears, neck and learn from my mistakes to wash your hands straight after!

If the facial tanner sounds a tad too daunting - i was petrified the first time - just fake it with bronzer. My two personal favourites that i switch up daily is Nars Laguna powder bronzer, with a slight shimmer and being rather sheer its perfect for building up to a desired shade. And my love affair with Chanel cream bronzer has still not faded since i bought it last year, its easy to blend, a very subtle colour and a fabulous contour product. Both products are on the pricer scale, but i've hardly dented either considering i bought them last summer and used them both daily, they are both amazing.

Any further tanning tips to share?

* yes i just make that word up, i have no idea what gloop is, you get the jist.

Dress - H&M (£14.99)

Oddly the boy received the new H&M lookbook in the post before i did, after he worryingly shoved it my hands and cussed ever ordering me presents from the H&M site. As i began to flick through their new A/W collections, i mentally made the biggest wish possible. Seriously, the pieces are so on trend yet so simple and so bloody affordable. I couldn't help but lust over the above dress, which i so happened to hunt eagerly down whilst picking up some last holiday bits.

Its the Zara dress i lusted over but could never quite afford, its the Miss Guided dress that is actually good quality and cheaper! Its the perfect cut, i adore the heavy material, especially the longer arm length and its not ridiculously short. I cannot wait to pair this with a black waist belt and thick black tights! I may also have to snap up the other black and orange shades!

This burnt orange colour will definitely inject some warmth in to A/W. Also making a mental note that i must, must buy that bag.

In other news, just before i leave you for my two week holiday, i have something exciting to share. Yesterday morning was pretty much a disaster, Thomas Cook phoned to say that our hotel had been closed because of no water supply or air con; so they were transferring my family to another hotel. My typically male father incorrectly wrote the wrong call centre advisor telephone number down to confirm,  so my mother waited (i wont say patiently) three hours and forty minutes on hold to sort it.

Needless to say Warehouse Twitter saw my despair and as part of their 30 day Ware Treats giveaway they kindly, but bloody amazingly treated me to a KINDLE! Something i've ben pondering over for a while, i say as i eye up the five books in my carry on luggage. And, my mum finally got through and we have been upgraded to a more premium hotel! I honestly never win anything, maybe i should have done the EuroMillions eh? There is still another eight more days to win a WareStyle treat, simply become a Facebook fan or a Twitter follower to be in with a chance!

See you in two weeks! Hopefully i will be laden with duty free purchases (Victoria Secrets anyone?) and  endless bottles of Cuban rum, yum. I have set up a few exciting scheduled posts so dare say keep an eye out for those, and follow me on twitter if you want to see my duty free goodies up and early tomorrow morning.

Chow!

p.s i'm going to take lots of outfit snaps, even though thats pointless because when i get back a/w will be here? thoughts on a post card please! ;)

What kind of fuckery is this?

This song is one i will forever cherish, i have played it repeatedly and constantly over the past three years. Not one of her famous hits, but its disgustingly beautiful to my ears. How funny that if you should look over my post titles in my blog that Me and Mr Jones has cropped up a fair few times. I throughly hope you enjoy this song as much as i have.

Skinny Love.

Yesterday afternoon my graduation took place at London's City Festival Hall, as much as it was exciting to see my friends and teachers from my university class and a good excuse for a knees up, it really a very long dwindling day. After the first one hundred students appear on stage, the next 500 is a very long process!  My parents and brother were super excited to say the lease - as i'm the first graduate in our family! - despite the fact my mother practically snoozed off missing me entirely and my grandparents who comically were glued to the live online screening, whilst my grandmother practically sobbed at every Sarah crossing the stage according to my grandfather. Oh dear lord, i leave you with the standard awful robed photos!

Dusty Pink Blazer - H&M
Dress - French Connection
Alexa Bag - Mulberry
Chain Pumps - Office
Death Stare - Model's own.

This outfit was somewhat thrown together the day before, i nabbed the pink dusty blazer from H&M for £19.99 - steal! The pumps were also a last minute purchase from Office, so bloody comfy, i may go back and buy the other colours!

Me and my utterly lovely bff and partner in crime Victoria, who looks beyond fabulous! Especially so, when she returned home from Ibiza at 3am that very morning!

Class snap shot!

Hope you enjoyed!

Loves a loosing game.

I haven't created a Lust List in forever, and what with the weather being slightly irrational i've been tempted by my chunky knitts - awful when i've just spent a fortune on buying a summer wardrobe! Alas, here is my rather bi-polar i-dont-know-if-its-summer-or-winter wish list..

Knee High Riding Boots - H&M (£29.99)

What an affordable staple for A/W, i love the two tone material and the 'slim' shape. Look perfect with tea dress, tights and oversized cardi.

Cable Knit Jumper - H&M (£24.99)

I could literally put this on right now, it looks so comfy. Worn with a floral skirt, black biker boots.

Navy Pansy Print Skirt - Topshop (£26.00)

I've bought a few similar skirts from TS in this style, really wearable and the price is rather, dare i say, amazing for Toppers? I don't know what i like more, the bow? the fact that its navy? or the oversized floral print?

Marlin Embellished Kipp Dress - Monsoon (£150.00)

Sadly this dress will have to stay firmly on my wish list, unless any one would kindly send me a wedding invitation, to say a reception in the south of France? Never the less, i adore the cut of the shift dress with the tuck waist, not to mention the idyllic turquoise shade and beautiful embellishment.

Peter Pan Embellished Blouse - Warehouse (£38.00)

The photos really don't give this beautiful blouse justice! It would amazing teamed with a high-wasited body con skirt and killer heels or black satin drainpipes.

Colour Block Slouchy Dress - Warehouse (£75.00)

I adore this dress! This was a major contender for a graduation dress, and i'm slightly sad i never bought it. Very tempted to sneakily buy it and save it for my birthday, in October ahem! The classic red and cream colour block dress is so simple and the gold belt just brings it all together, and who would have ever thought this was high-street? This dress looks fit for the red carpet!

Formal Bow Pleated Shift Dress - Oasis (£70.00)

This beautiful dress has been dubbed the Christmas dress, whats with all my forward wardrobe planning? It's pretty, sparkly and over all rather festive? Itching to be worn with thick black tights? Or tanned legs for a summer evening? I'm going crackers.

Gold Sequin Overlay Top - Topshop (£38.00)

This wouldn't be a true lust list without any kind of embellished blouse thrown in, one day, one day i will ignore my mothers advice about all the sequins falling off in the washing machine and buy one - daughter rebellion at it's best.

Nude Crop Waterfall Jacket - Topshop (£60.00)

Its nude, its simple, it has the perfect cut. I need it.

Knitted Belted Ribbed Jumper - Topshop (£28.00)

I'm rather uncertain as to why i'm drawn to this jumper. There is clearly another Man Men love affair at work here, the nipped in belt, its so prim and proper, and a bit sickening, but that doesn't stop me adding it promptly to my virtual basket.

Burgundy Chinos - Topshop (£36.00)

After declaring i was strictly a no trousers kinda girl, i am somewhat converted to the art of the chino. Cue the horror of said boyfriend and Grandmother who simply asked on Sunday afternoon over tea: 'what are those on your legs?' The item in question were my stone chinos from Tescos (seriously, do not underestimate the power of supermarket clothing) of which i rotating like crazy, due to the crazy nature of summer being a rainfest, and i cannot succumb to black tights in the middle of July, and breathe.

Navy Faux Fur Wool Coat - Topshop (£75.00)

Its never to early to snap up the ideal winter coat, even at retarded inflated prices. Whats not to love? A faux fur trim and navy, swoon.

Any of these pieces take your fancy?

17 July 2011

Break on through.

Whilst impatiently waiting to see the final instalment of Harry Potter this evening, i recorded a video detailing all my beauty and skincare picks for my summer holiday. Being completely forgetful, i didn't mention this fabulous Sigma travel brush set i won from a giveaway on the utterly lovely Gem's blog. Amazing timing and perfect for my holiday, it includes all the necessary brushes with extra space to tuck away my amazing Clinique powder brush, trusty No7 eyeshadow brushes and Mac 227SE blending brush! They really are amazing quality, completely converted!

Have you tried any of these products? I have also filmed a video detailing my handbag collection, watch this space.

A collection of thoughts.

Recently i have come across many thoughts and rambles i have wanted to share, so instead of posting numerous posts i thought i would collate them in to one big mash up of my current loves and finds.

Matthew Williamson for Laduree

Matthew Williamson has announced that during LFW from September 16th to 26th, he will be collaborating with the famous, luxury macaroon bakers Laduree Paris to celebrate the wonders that fashion week brings. Williamson has designed a rather snazzy butterfly printed box to house the tasty macaroons, of which will be available to purchase exclusively at the London Laduree, in their soon-to-open stand alone store in Covent Garden. Although i am yet to try a macaroon, they look more like an array of colourful puff of air, intriguing. No doubt, a wonderful and tasty way to celebrate LFW!

Sarah Jessica Parker for Vogue

Sarah Jessica Parker shot by none other than Mario Testino for US Vogue, accompanied by her adorable twin girls Marion and Tabitha. For being surprisingly private about her family, i was delighted to see these fun-filled fashion spreads. Those lucky little ladies really have no idea what a stylish yummy mummy they have, and how many fabulous Manolos they will soon have in their reach. Parker looks equally stunning next to her husband Matthew Broderick. The cover line 'The Age Issue' takes me back and brings a smile to my face to the SATC film where Carries poses in that infamous Westwood wedding dresse in the Vogue feature Brides of all Ages.

Marc Jacob Latest Ads

Marc Jacobs always comes up trumps with his latest ad campaigns, my personal favourite being the iconic shot of Victoria Beckham having fallen in to a MJ shopper. This season is no disappointment, with the startingly young and beatiful Elle Fanning and the over eccentric Helena Boham Carter. What a strange but wonderful mix, what wonderful way to show MJ as its best. I adore the blank white filled page, with the random photograph, that instantly shouts, in that fine blunt font, Marc Jacobs.

Lila Grace

Forget that disgraced Galliano dress and blue-soled Choo's, or the star-studded muddy Hen party at Glastonbury (not forgetting the pink hummers), or even the A-List wedding that lasted three days, most notably dubbed Mosstock. Move aside Mrs and Mr Moss; for the true beauty was Miss Lilia Grace, Moss's eight year old daughter with Dazed and Confused founder Jefferson Hack. Her angelic whisical dainty features reminds me of Moss in her younger years, a fresh sixteen year old Kate straight from the streets of good old Croydon. You can bet your bottom dollar that Lila Grace will certainly be one to watch for the future, you mark my words!

LC Style

Newly single Lauren Conrad is back full force promoting her new Crown & Glory range, of which i pay no attention to as it won't be gracing British shores for a long time yet, if ever. However, i was delighted to spot that her Style book - of which i have simply been meaning to buy forever - was perched on the sale stand of WHSmiths for a steal-worthy price of £5.99! Time to indulge my inner fan-girl.

The Passage

I picked up The Passage by Justin Cronin on a whim, and i'm so pleased i did. This thriller sci-fi is one of must-reads for the summer (i will re-read books over & over), it is so well written and unbelievable gripping, cue a few nightmares in tow. Set in the not too distant future, the plot resolves around a young child named Amy, who goes on to save the world from a deadly virus in which creates a number of vampires (ick!) named Virals. Think American FBI meet Shaun of the Dead. If you don't have time to read (tut) wait for the Hollywood film due out next year.

David Gandy

No words can explain how much i need to peruse over the beautiful man that is David Gandy in his  new book, published by Dolce and Gabbana, i think you'll agree when i say the photography speak for it's self.

Holy moly. I'm all a hot flush. This man is simply beautiful. Sadly he's taken, with bloody Molly from The Saturdays (insert much swearing), i'm next in line fyi.

Urban Outfitters

Say what! For a limited time you can save a whopping 15% at Urban Outfitters online with the code: UOSUN15 - the offer is valid until midnight on 14th July - aka tomorrow night. The discount applies to all sale items (whoop!), i for one will be snapping up some pretty home trinklets.

What a long ramble! Care to share any of your thoughts?
If you want to see more photos of Mr Gandy from his recent book, see here, and yes, there are naked ones.

8 July 2011

Oh I look just like Buddy Holly.

Holy moly. Megan Fox is my ultimate girl crush. Who cares if she had a fling with Shia or mouthed of Michael Bay (who's a jerk none the less)? In the latest Armani Eyes to Kill promo shots she looks fucking fierce. Intense smokey eye and a perfect pink pout, i would kill to trade bodies/eyebrows with her any day. Realistically thinking maybe i should just stick to perusing the new Armani shadows first.

In other news i went for my contact lense trial at Boots on Thursday, i really cannot fault their service, they were so lovely - even during the awkward moment when i replied to the female optician what that my nail varnish was Nars Orgasm and she spluttered coffee every where, and we gazed into the air awkwardly as she asked 'is that the colour, of, a, it, um?'

Moving on after a rather pricey eye test (being an adult actually sucks), i was led to a poor bloke named Thomas in another office to try a few lenses out. After squirting solution over his trousers, dropping about five lenses on the floor (and yet again his trousers) i managed to literally throw one in my eye, after twenty minutes of trying. It doesn't hurt, there are no horror stories, its just plain tricky. Poor Thomas. I literally screamed in full force 'I CAN SEE!' pointing at the emergency exit sign across the shop. Yes poor poor Thomas.

They sent me on my way with another five free pairs, and i go to pick up a proper two free trial packets on Monday - not bad really! I have since tried them on at home, cue managing to take one out and not the other, leaving me feeling drunk, nauseous, dizzy and blind in one eye for roughly half an hour, consequently stacking it up the stairs in the mean time.

If you are thinking about trying contacts i definitely recommend Boots, and if you have a free moment this weekend there is a fabulous documentary on Valentino titled The Last Emperor on the BBC iPlayer, my favourite quote from his partner - 'I think you should tone down the [fake] tan a tad.'

6 July 2011

Man at his best.

Esquire US - August 2011

I adore this front cover, the captions, the humour, the stereotypical male magazine. I would have loved to publish something like this. Will definitely have to take a trip to Selfridges magazine department.
