THE BOTTOM DRAWER

Monogrammed Mug - Anthropologie (£6.00)

The bottom drawer, a term you may be familiar with, is your stash that you acquire and build up for your new place before you move out. Something my parents fondly remember from their hay day, but something I'm starting to accumulate by myself. It's a sad tale to say that I am still living at home perhaps, I won't ramble on about mortgages and renting (that's a depressing state of affairs, christ on a bike). Since working for an interiors brand, my eyes have been opened and never has my Pinterest been so jam-packed with decor inspiration. So whilst I may be a long way off from taking baby steps in to the big wide world, I currently have two mugs and a imac.. hashtag #priorities.

I came across these delightfully monogrammed mugs from US brand Anthropologie, a brand I certainly hear raved about but never stepping foot inside. Stepping in their Regent Street store in the city, Anthropologie is a slice of decor heaven. A mish mash of botanical inspired crockery, fashion and those famous drawer pulls. I purchased a monogrammed 'S' and 'M' mug for me and Matthew. Despite the fact Matthew hates tea (weirdo) and I can't even fit my fingers in the loop, how freeking amazing will these look on a bookshelf? Yes, I've officially gone crackers. Cute though right?

Have you started a bottom drawer, or pray do tell, how did you even afford furniture after rent/deposit/life?

BEAUTY SAVIOURS

With the bout of hot weather we were graced with (which has now coincidentally passed in time for the bank hol) my skin has really struggled with dryness and was in certain need of a little TLC. Coming up trumps and saving the day were my little line up of beauty saviours, which nourished my skin back to a silky smooth state. Without further ado, let me introduce my current skin and body care favourites...

Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask - John Lewis (£22.00)
Ren Hydra-Calm Protection Day Cream - John Lewis (£27.00)

Origins Drink Up Intensive Mask - A staple in my beauty stash, this tropical fragranced mask is a godsend for tired overworked skin. Layering a fine dollop over your face after moisturising before bed, the Origins mask is literally quenches the skins thirst for moisture. Waking up with plump, silky soft skin I look like I've slept for days!

Ren Hydra-Calm Protection Day Cream - Aimed at sensitive skins and protecting against free radicals - neither of which I have or am that bothered about (shh), I could simply shout from the roof tops how much this moisturiser makes my skin so soft, day after day. A pricey investment, but worth it all the same. My skin longed for this product after I switched to something more affordable. The proof is always in the pudding.

Jergens Skin Firming Body Cream - Superdrug (£3.32)
Vaseline Cocoa Radiant - Superdrug (£2.33)

Jergen's Skin Firming Moisturiser - Whilst I don't believe that any cream can firm your wobbly bits, I will certainly repurchase any lotion that can leave your skin feeling hydrated the day after application - and you guessed it, exactly what the Jergen moisturiser serves up. A lightweight, easy to apply cream that instantly sinks in, it ticks every beauty need - with a lightly fragranced holiday smelling whiff - I'm sold.

Vaseline Cocoa Radiant Body Oil - I totally bought this on a whim, and yes whilst I may slip and slide around in my PJ this works WONDERS on newly shaved pins. It leaves my legs feeling glowy (not shiny), with no icky residue but really, really nourished. A pampering treat for under a £5 you really can't go wrong, this will certainly be a staple during the winter months. GO BUY.

Have you tried any of these products?

NIKE FREE TR FIT TRAINERS

Nike Lady TR Fit Trainers - Sports Shoes* (£67.49)

After my last post all about getting fit the stylish way, I thought I would showcase my actual power walking get up. As you can see my rather glamourous attire constitutes of whatever make ups lasted from my working day, a baggy, slightly vintage Topshop jersey, white vest and cheap leggings from New Look. It's all glam central over here at City Girl's Fashion Box.

What really matters however is comfort. And the starting point of that was my brand spankin' new Nike Free TR Fit trainers. Effortlessly cool - who doesn't love leopard print? Paired with that coral famed swoosh, it's enough to get me out there thundering around my village every evening. Light as air, but working you hard, the Nike Free's flex grooves on the sole allow for smooth strides - and i'm feeling it. Giving the right amount of support and feeling like your walking barefoot, you just want to keep going and going.. Whilst I may not be outrunning Usain Bolt any time soon, there's definitely no buts about picking a decent pair of trainers for working out, learnt my lesson finally.
'Oh, it's her again Mike - whipping out her camera.. again.'
'Cor look at her trainers though.'

I can't stop staring at them, can I wear them everywhere please? I'll glide/powerwalk/pant everywhere.

What trainers do you wear?

CHEATS GUIDE: DIY TOTE AND LAUNDRY BAG

As you may know from this post, I love a good tote bag. Forever slinging my book and lunch in one on my way to work, there is never a day I don't carry one. Feeling rather crafty, I decided to embrace my 'make-do' side and get to grips with a do-it-yourself tote bag. Without a sewing machine however, and no basic sewing skills what so ever, I decided to embark on the cheats way. Heh. I mean - who really has time to sew their own tote when you can buy a perfectly plain cotton tote for a small sum on Amazon? Exactly! Glad you agree. Lets jump in...

You will need:

- Cotton tote bag - Amazon (£1.76)
- Fabric
- Ruler and pencil
- Fabric glue
- Thread and needle
- Buttons or decoration
- A4 piece of paper
- Iron

1) To start you will need to cut out your piece of material for the tote bag. Positioning the fabric on your bag, roughly work out the size needed by drawing lightly on the reverse side of the fabric the rectangular piece. I used the beautifully floral Clarissa fabric from Laura Ashley, roughly 35cm height x 29cm width. To ensure no creases, I pressed (fancy word for iron) both the fabric and tote bag before I began.

2) To prevent the fabric piece from fraying, I pressed down each side of the bag with an iron and did simple stitches along each side in pink thread. This doesn't need to be perfect - I think it looks better a little messy, though I might be saying that to cover up my hideous stitching!

So it looks a little like this!

3) Next it's time to glue the fabric piece on the bag, you could take a short cut and stitch it directly on but it's a bit tricky to not sew the actual bag together. (Really bloody annoying.) I used some basic fabric glue from Hobby Craft via my Gran, who gave the very clever tip of popping a sheet of A4 paper inside the tote bag just incase the glue seeps through the material, it won't stick the bag together - top tip!

Spread the glue evenly and place in position. Leave to dry for an hour or two.

4) Though the fabric glue is a nifty little thing, it's not that strong. I took a cream thread and went along the seams stitching it to the bag. At each corner I did a cross stitch and then once every three pink stitches.. as seen in the photo above.

5) Next it's time to decorate, as you can see I went for over the top girly kitsh. Who doesn't love pearls and buttons eh? I picked these up very cheaply from The Works, as much as it pains me to say but Hobby Craft is way over priced. Simply stitch where ever you fancy and make sure to attach well. The crafting world is your oyster (pearls yeah? gettit?).

6) Flip the bag inside out and trim the loose pieces of thread, you don't want something inside the bag to pull on the thread and a button pop off! Then turn the right way and iron the bag to ensure the fabric lays flats and looks it's best. Then ta-dah! I feel like I'm on Great British Sewing Bee.

I also had a go at decorating a laundry bag I also purchased from Amazon, perfect for taking away on holiday for underwear or storing socks (mine always do a disappearing act after they've been in the wash). These are super easy to make and could also be the perfect handmade gift.

Decorations on the laundry bag.
Whilst baking might not be my thing - disaster zone central -  crafting is definitely more up my street. Even if it's slightly stressful, what with loosing the needle twice and be covered in pink thread for days, it is.. quite fun.

Do let me know if you have any questions or you give this a go! And please do leave suggestions of what I should try my hand at next. If you're in need of inspiration one of my favourite crafting bloggers is the hilarious Jojo at Mis Jojangles, she literally knits everything. Go follow.

HOT TO TROT

Elliot Pantent Courts - Kurt Geiger via Selfridges (£250.00)

Sometimes in life you really have to bite the bullet and go for it. That's how the Kurt Geiger Elliot Patent Courts came to be. With the nude sleek pointed front and slim golden heel, these heels are fierce. Whilst it may take a while to muster up enough courage to wear them outside, in the err real world, they will however look beautiful on display on my bookcase. A massive thank you to Adrienne who picked my name out her Selfridges giveaway than enabled me to have such a wickedly pair of heels in my procession!

What was the last item you bought that took you out of your comfort zone - in a good way - ?

GETTING FIT: THE STYLISH WAY

When it comes to exercise, i'm as lazy as you can get. The gym is my idea of sweaty, expensive hell and Jillian Michaels can stuff her thirty-day-thundering-around, my parents safe in the knowledge  i won't crash through the ceiling. In a bid to tone up however, I decided to do fitness my way - aka the easy way.

Without the stress or expensive monthly payouts I decided to take full advantage of my village and powerwalk for free. Doing a 20 minute fast beat powerwalk before work in the early morning is doing wonders. I can sweat, look horrendous, even do a little dance to Beyonce whilst powerwalking around my local park and block. Instead of feeling sleepy (cue dribbling and missing my stop) on the train to work, I feel wide awake and raring to go. For real.

Run the Earth Sweater - (£45.00) / Exploded Nike T-shirt - (£25.00) / Nike Free Spin Windrunner Jacket - (£65.00) / Adidas Trank Pants - (£30.00) / Capri Pants (£25.00) / Logo Rally Pants - (£40.00)

With a new hobby comes the new excuse for must needed clothing - such a girl, it hurts. After having a mad dash on the sale section of women's sportswear store JD Sports (a place I haven't haunted since my teen years - though their sales are pretty epic) I picked up two pairs of trainers - both highly unsuitable for running. Case in point here: 1, 2. Though I did buy them in children's sizes, having size 5.5 feet is far more reasonable apparently.

Being a Nike fangirl, I also picked up a pair of tapered trackie bottoms which Matthew likes to say I look like an overlarge toddler. Meh. Super comfy and fluffy lining, it's enough to make you want to wear sweat pants forever. I did not just type that. Though I am intrigued to purchase the leggings for milder weather, as they will be more lightweight. Same goes with the coral waterproof jacket, stylish enough to make me haul my ass out of bed on a rainy day? I hope!

Though it really is time I upgraded to the running shoe... get ready, get set... SWOON!

Nike Free TR Fit 3 - JD Sports (£85.00)

Why hello there. Fashion meets Fitness. Forget the fug Nike Free Runs i'm all over the Nike Free TR Fits whilst thundering along to my Powerwalk Playlist..

If the thought of power walking / general exercise still sounds like a chore - as let's face it, it is - I've been dragging my dad out for evening walks (read: hikes) after dinner around our village. We plod along for two miles, me chatting his ear off about the woes of life, him pretending to listen and keep up.
Not only do I feel sleepy for bed, freeing myself from my normally glued-to-my-hand iPhone, it's honestly feels good to have some fresh air. So grab yourself a walking buddy and make the most of having summer evenings!

First up, what exercise do you partake in? Secondly, what do you wear? Thirdly, agree with me on how cool the trainers are AND my playlist (which may have taken a whole evening trying to work out how to embed in this post...).

FORTNUM & MASON AFTERNOON TEA

Well over a month or so ago, it was my mother's 50th birthday and in true style we decided to push the boat out and pop along to Fortnum and Mason for afternoon tea with all the ladies in my family. We had a wonderfully wicked time, eating our weight in cake and pretending to be posh ladies. I snapped my way through the day and wondered if you would like to come along?

First stop was Covent Garden where we truly became tourists in our own city, mooching around the stalls in the central square, watching the street performers and looking in the array of dinky shops dotted around.

Popping into Lush, the store leads on underground with twists and turns - a fragrant maze! Being the biggest Lush fan (she has a fridge for soap, no joke) my Gran went armed with a voucher to spend and out came with a few soaps - without resisting to pop the sales assistant's bubbles!

With a quick stop at Ben's Cookies, my Gran and I sneakily scoffed a peanut butter cookie. Amazingly scrummy, the chewy chocolaty gooeyness melts in your mouth - heaven!

The birthday girl & I.

For those of you who didn't know Fortumn and Mason is a grand old department store based in Piccadilly, with an array of treasures to peruse. Never having stepped inside the store, I was taken aback by each enchanting floor, British iconic hampers, luxurious fragrances, macaroons in every flavour and a jewellery section that evokes your inner magpie!

Taking our seats at The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon we sat down to a beautifully presented table, ordering our tea for the afternoon - mine was peppermint (and the best I've ever tasted, albeit very very sweet).

Following on with the sweet theme, a cake stand of treats were delivered to the table to be shared between each couple. The bottom layer was an array of finger sandwiches: cucumber with mint butter (in true British fashion!), coronation chicken, rare roast beef with gherkin, egg with mustard cress and smoked salmon. Thoroughly deceiving, these small finger sandwiches were very filling indeed but that did not stop the waitresses refilling throughout the afternoon..

Hands down the tastiest scone I ever did eat, sweetly soft buttered scones served with clotted cream and a number of jam preserves, I opted for the classic Raspberry. I could live off these forever more!

On to the exciting part - the cake! Within a blink of an eye my Gran had whipped the pink iced eclair - very sneaky, but she assures me it was delicious. Being rather fussy, I can't quite eat cake that wobbles (just me??) a creme brulee is my idea of hell, eurgh, but the gold chocolate topped biscuit made up the other two (which again my Gran scoffed) it was mouthwateringly good. For a cake so small, it's rich full flavours was a slice of chocolate heaven.

Having called ahead, Fortumn and Mason's resident piano player was kind enough to play Happy Birthday to my somewhat mortified mother - she loved it really!

If the sweet treats on your stand weren't enough to fulfil your cake needs, around the corner was a table laden with other cakes waiting to be sampled - at no extra cost! I could have eaten a slice of all... yet I couldn't resist a slice of Batternburg - words cannot describe how tasty it was.

How delicious does this white chocolate and lemon cake look?

Before we made our way home, our waitress was kind enough to whip us up each a goodie bag to take home - I think you'll believe me when I say they didn't last long ;).

A delightful day and one I recommend to anyone who fancies a foodie treat or celebrating an occasion. Fortumn and Mason couldn't have provided a better service or afternoon tea and I've been truly bitten by the whole afternoon tea bug - where should we visit next?
